The island  of socotra is home to some unique species,37% of its plant species are found only on the island as well as some of its reptiles and even snails.
There are dragon's blood trees(related to lily-of-the-valley),named for the red sap which comes out  when the bark is cut,they have a trunk with a many  branched top.
Species of dragon's blood trees have existed for about 20 million years.

Other trees and plants include a cucumber tree that can grow to about  20 feet,a desert rose that can grow to 16ft

There are 18 species of geckos,of which 15 are found only on socotra including  the socotra rock gecko.

The socotra chameleon has lived on the island for perhaps 15 million years,isolated from other chameleon as suggested by DNA studies.

Birds include the Abd al-kuri sparrow that lives on the island of abd al-kuri and the socotra sparrow.
