The island of hon khoai off the most southermost tip of vietnam is home to two or more  species of gecko,one of which is cnemaspis psychedelica,whose skin is coloured black, orange,purple and yellow.
DNA analysis suggests the species originated about 20 million years ago,the oldest linage of all gecko species.

Species of dragon's blood trees have existed for about 20 million years.

Other trees and plants include a cucumber tree that can grow to about  20 feet,a desert rose that can grow to 16ft

There are 18 species of geckos,of which 15 are found only on socotra including  the socotra rock gecko.

The socotra chameleon has lived on the island for perhaps 15 million years,isolated from other chameleon as suggested by DNA studies.

Birds include the Abd al-kuri sparrow that lives on the island of abd al-kuri and the socotra sparrow.
