Lake baikal has more than 1200 animal species and 1000 plant species,there are over 250 amphidod species(40% of the world's total),147 snail species,80 flatworm species,fish.The animal species include the world's only freshwater seal,the nerpa,of which there are about 50,000.
There are fish like the translucent golomyanka or oil fish.
